Course Description
This course will examine the literary form of novel-in-stories by examining three novels鈥擮live Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout, Girl, Woman, Other by Bernardine Evaristo, and the classic Winesburg, Ohio by Sherwood Anderson. We鈥檒l discuss each individual 鈥渟tory鈥� in the book, and then the book as a whole鈥攚hat unifies the 鈥渟tories鈥� in the book to tell an overall story in the novel tradition as opposed to a collection鈥攁s well as the nuanced differences (and similarities) between novels, novels-in-stories and short story collections.
