Welcome to our writing community!
The 丝瓜APP University MFA in Writing program offers an active and supportive writing community. We host a virtual graduate student reading series through which current students have an opportunity to share their projects, an MFA Thesis reading for graduating students and alumni, as well as Craft Talks and other literary events throughout the year. Students and alumni can keep in touch and receive program updates and writing-related information through our MFA Students group in Canvas, our page, our literary journal page for , our , and by attending our events. Calls for submissions and upcoming literary events are posted regularly on our program Facebook page.

The online class聽Fundamentals of Teaching College Composition聽is designed to help students prepare to teach freshman-level composition and related introductory writing classes at the college level, with weekly notes for current/future teachers including sample assignments and class exercises.
Current students can read Beth Mead鈥檚 essay 鈥淔ive Things Freshman Composition Students Need to Learn鈥� in the MFA Students group in Canvas.
A note regarding聽Distinguished Alumni instructors聽in our program: A limited number of our outstanding MFA alumni who have gained substantial university teaching experience after graduation and have published their creative writing work have been recruited by the program director to serve as instructors for specialized courses in our MFA program. We are currently at our allowed number of alumni instructors for the program. It is important that we do not exceed the current number of alumni instructors in order for our faculty to provide a diverse range of perspectives and experiences to the students in our program. We encourage our graduating students who are interested in teaching to begin by applying for composition/literature positions at other universities, focusing on building their teaching experience along with publishing their creative writing work, before pursuing creative writing instructor positions later in their teaching careers.聽
