Fueling Needs and Health Status in Competitive Athletes
Fueling Needs and Health Status in Competitive Athletes
LU IRB#: IRB-26-134
PI: Chad Kerksick, PhD
Description of Study
Participate in this study to help us learn more about the fueling needs of adult competitive athletes. This study will assess body composition, dietary intake, energy use, and nutrition knowledge to better understand how well athletes are meeting their energy needs for training and performance. The goal is to provide information that can help support athletes in a broad range of competitive sports in their health, recovery, injury prevention, and performance.
Adequate nutrition is essential for athletic performance, recovery, long-term health, and optimal training adaptations, yet athletes have unique nutritional and physiological demands that can be challenging to meet. This study will comprehensively evaluate competitive male and female athletes by examining nutrition, energy expenditure and availability, metabolism, body composition, bone health, physical performance, and recovery. The findings will help us better understand the relationships between fueling, health, performance, and recovery while identifying opportunities to improve nutrition education and fueling practices among athletes.
